Job Introduction
About the role
The Line Assistant supports the Line Manager in the daily operation of a production line or area, helping to maximise efficiency and productivity by making the best use of team members, equipment, and resources. They play a key role in maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and hygiene, and assist with onboarding and training new starters.
The role involves ensuring the line runs according to schedule to meet dispatch and transportation deadlines, while also working closely with various site functions such as Health & Safety, Technical, Hygiene, Engineering, and other support services. Where applicable, the Line Assistant helps manage changeovers and reduce downtime, and may also deputise for the Line Manager.
Main Responsibility
- Assist with the start-up, checking, running, and monitoring of production lines or areas
- Report any operational issues to the Line Manager
- Delegate tasks during changeovers to maximise productivity
- Manage team schedules including start times, breaks, and job rotations
- Welcome new employees and support their integration into the team
- Provide effective on-the-job training for new starters
- Support the Line Manager in balancing team skills and experience
- Maintain a safe working environment in line with company policies
- Promote safety standards through leadership and example
- Ensure all team members understand and uphold quality standards
- Encourage and support “Clean As You Go” practices
- Actively assist on the production line when required
- Help uphold health and safety standards across the line
- Support the Line Manager in achieving the production plan
