Hygiene Supervisor Night

The hours of work and shift patterns are: 

Tuesday - Saturday 10 PM - 6 AM

The rates of pay are: £14.61

Main Responsibility

  • To supervise a team of afternoon shift hygiene operatives to ensure that factory hygiene is kept to industry and customer standards
  • To ensure that cleaning procedures and methods are adequate to prevent contamination of product
  • Support with the hygiene aspect of internal, customer and third party technical/hygiene visits and audits
  • To ensure that all team members are fully trained in the tasks they are expected to undertake. Arrange staff rotas and overtime as required
  • To ensure that all site areas are kept clean and tidy throughout the shift, including all offices and amenities, and that all relevant paperwork is correctly filled in and signed off as verification
  • To ensure that all appropriate procedures are followed in line with the cleaning procedures
  • To work closely with all other site colleagues to ensure that correct hygiene procedures are adhered to and escalate issues where food safety or quality may be compromised
  • To maintain excellent Good Manufacturing Practices standards at all times
  • Ensure cleaning procedures are up to date and adequate
  • To manage attendance records and undertake return to work interviews following absence
  • Act as the primary contact for the hygiene team during the Afternoon shift
  • Ensure that staff store all chemicals and cleaning equipment away at the end of each shift in accordance with GMP standards;
  • Conduct a routine check of all departments once all cleaning has been completed to ensure that the departments are left tidy.
  • Providing leadership and direction to the on-site hygiene teams. Ensuring your teams are focused, engaged and able to deliver.
  • Completing paperwork and reporting. To ensure that all records are stored properly, updated and accurate to audit standard.
  • To provide training on cleaning process (cleaning instruction cards), hygiene SOPs and COPs, health and safety and chemical safety;
  • To ensure food safety and health and safety standards are maintained across the teams and to investigate any failures. Instil a safety-conscious attitude and work methods into all your staff. Use disciplinary action, if necessary to ensure safe practices are followed.
  • To lead the department towards achieving results by coaching, developing and setting performance targets on a 1:1 basis;
  • To communicate effectively with your teams, your line manager and other key functions on site, for example operations, technical, hygiene team and maintenance to help plan jobs and to contribute to improvements inside and outside of the hygiene department.
  • To manage poor performance through counselling and disciplinary in accordance with Company procedures.
  • To control the use and stock of cleaning materials, chemicals and PPE to ensure that they are used effectively and efficiently, are available when needed and waste is minimised. and advise the Hygiene Manager when additional stock needs to be ordered
  • Manage the collection of laundry e.g. overalls and gloves. Liaise with laundry supplier and site technical team regarding any issues
  • Ensure that food safety procedures are adhered to at all times
  • To ensure cleans are completed to schedule and to the site and customer standards, GMP hygiene standards are met, internal and external audits are passed;
  • To lead by example by adhering to Company general policies, i.e., Food Safety, Health Safety, Absence, etc;
  • To drive forward hygiene standards in line with the company’s continuous improvement ethos.
  • Available for and actively participate in customer audits.
  • To undertake other appropriate duties as deemed necessary within the scope of the role.
  • Able to report Engineering requirements through the Shires System

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualifications (preferable but not essential)
    • COSHH
    • Safe Working with Chemicals
    • Foundation certificate in food safety
    • Foundation certificate in HACCP
  • Experience
    • Minimum 2 years working within in a Food Manufacturing environment
    • 2+ years’ experience in similar role or handling similar tasks within a food manufacturing environment is highly advantageous
    • Experience of managing and developing people
    • Good knowledge of cleaning practices
    • Ideally experience of a working with demanding retail or similar customer base
  • Skills
    • Good standard of spoken & written English which will allow written instructions to be read & effectively communicated
    • Solid level of numeracy – able to calculate & report on performance
    • Demonstrable track record of managing teams; building capability, addressing any issues effectively and in compliance with legislative and company policies & procedures
    • Ability to clearly communicate at all levels & build a strong, effective team
    • Self-motivated and highly resilient
    • A high level of flexibility is required and ability to problem solve in a fast paced environment
