Animal Welfare Officer

Job Introduction

Come and join us! We currently have a permanent opportunity for an Animal Welfare Officer to join our team in Willand, Devon.

  • The post is working Monday to Friday (and alternating Saturdays), Days and Nights on a 2 week rotating pattern
  • The hours of work and shift patterns are:

Week 1: Monday to Saturday, 4:30am - 1pm

Week 2: Monday to Friday, 3pm - 11:45pm 

Main Responsibility

Your key responsibility will be to monitor deliveries of live birds, ensuring steady supply is maintained. At the factory, we prepare and package chicken for large supermarkets across the UK. The welfare of these birds is of the utmost importance during the production process and ensures that we contribute to an ethical supply chain. 

Other duties include: 

  • Check welfare status of birds as they arrive
  • Report any welfare issues to relevant people
  • Monitor and check operatives on the hanging stand
  • Assist the AW Manager in maintain training and assessments for COC applicants 

The Ideal Candidate

As our ideal Animal Welfare Officer, you will have:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good IT skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English.

Previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage. It would also be a benefit if you have a full certificate of Competence in Welfare of Animals at Time of Killing. However, this is not essential as training will be provided.

About the Company

UK Poultry represents more than half of 2 Sisters’ business by sales. The division employs over 8,500 people working in a chilled environment to process poultry products which are then marketed to consumers via major retailers. Our colleagues work across ten primary sites across the UK, where chickens are transported from nearby farms for processing and at our cutting sites prepared for portioning, deboning, and filleting. UK Poultry predominantly produces private-label products for major retailers.
